Web of Wyrd Is a multimedia embroidered collage work that was the centerpiece of my solo exhibition, “Last Serving Daughter”. This exhibition centered around my journey in overcoming generational traumas and my process becoming my family's newest Matriarch. This piece focused on the Nordic belief that everyone is connected by the Web of Wyrd- similar to the Tree of Life. The Web of Wyrd is the Nordic belief of interconnectedness between the past, present, and future of all beings. It’s believed that everyone you know/have known is a part of your personal “web” and that their “web” is inner connected to yours for however long you are in each others lives. “Webs” naturally branch off from time to time and are not guaranteed to remain tied forever. This piece depicts my personal Web of Wyrd and the connections that have carried me throughout my life. Some start out connected to me, some move on, and some are purposefully cut loose. The spider that dangles below is a representation of the self and the belief that I have some control over who stays in my personal Web of Wyrd.
