You make me feel like I am whole again is a figurative painting that features a woman with a bird and butterfly. There was a tradition in our family where my uncle visited my grandparents every day on his way home from work. After they passed away he continued that tradition by visiting my mom every day. Then when he retired they’d talk every day on the phone. When she passed away he’d call me every day. We talked about all sorts of things. Sports. His children. And every time he got his hair cut he’d say “I feel like I am whole again.” I’d laugh, because how could something as simple as a haircut make someone feel whole? But then I worked a the Homeless Alliance. And it became very clear. He had passed away by then, but I always remembered those words. I was working on this painting listening to Adele, and Lovestory came on. She sang the lyrics, “You make me feel like I am whole again.” I had listened to that song so many times but never really heard those lyrics like I did that day. And those words became the title of this painting. Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make a person feel whole. Help if you can.
