Born and raised in Oklahoma, I’ve always been drawn to and fascinated by the visual arts and how it can communicate, connect, and resonate with individuals across unique perspectives. As my primary medium, I found that acrylic allows me to be as thoughtful, precise, or free as I choose to approach my subject while retaining the boldness that I strive for in each piece. Each added layer of paint has the potential to provide a richer result without compromising its initial value through color and texture. As I try to keep myself open to inspiration wherever I go, I observe and listen to the systems in the day-to-day and the connections between them, both physical and abstract, bringing in elements of architecture, music, transportation, landscapes, people, and dreams. Doing so allows me to adopt an ever-evolving appreciation of the design of the world constructed around us. My work also tends to take on attributes of the state of mind that I’m experiencing at the time of creation, acting as a momento that triggers a sense of nostalgia. I begin planning a painting by leaning toward chain-of-thought reasoning to determine my initial composition. As the piece evolves, the more innate human characteristics start to take shape through its style, allowing new ideas and emotions to shape the direction of the piece. I explore what makes an instance so meaningful to me and translate it into a simplified, often symbolic, version of that view, captured in time.
